A wild thyme at the yurt

Mim Mc

We were over the moon to kick off the Yurt Feast series in Limehouse, East London earlier this month.

The Yurt Café is the brain child of Royal Foundation of Saint Katherine, an amazing charity that has been supporting communities in East London since 1147! The Yurt Café has been open since November 2015 and acts as a beautiful hub for the Limehouse community to meet, create, learn, eat and chill.

Until now the Yurt hasn’t been open in the evenings so on a balmy summer’s evening we were thrilled to take over their awesome kitchen made from a shipping container for their very first supper club.

In true Wild Thyme Food style, we served a three course vegetarian sharing feast paired with delicious wines chosen by the very talented wine sommelier Dominique Hopgood.

Our guests were greeted with a rhubarb and Prosecco fizz cocktail in the newly planted garden before sitting down to a starter of citrus Mediterranean salad with fennel, fresh mint and basil and paprika griddled halloumi, watercress and basil oil.

The main event was a spiced griddled aubergine with marinated feta served with broad bean herby quinoa, garlicky courgette ribbons, ruby slaw, radish pickles and a creamy pistachio dressing.

Pud was a fresh cherry, almond and elderflower cake, served whole for guests devour (and hopefully share!) at their tables with a mound of almond brittle and crème fraiche. This was the winner according to the guests and was paired beautifully with a slightly fizzy muscat. (All wines are now available at the Yurt Café).

As the weather has been pretty temperamental we were lucky to have a gorgeous evening meaning we could roll up the sides of the yurt giving our yurt feasters an al fresco dining experience! We love the contrast of the traditional yurt in an urban setting and applaud the Yurt Café and St Katherine’s precinct for their dedication to support the multi cultural and transient community of Limehouse.

Next up for the Yurt Café is a Malaysian feast on Friday 5th August by Vi Vian, check out the menu and get your tickets here.

Keep an eye on our events page for more Wild Thyme Food pop up events.

Holi Yoga Feast- 18th March

Mim Mc

Last month, we hosted our Holi Yoga Feast with the queen of rocket, Katarina Rayburn. Brockwell Lido’s beautiful cafe was the perfect setting with a ceiling full of vibrant pompoms and a serene view of the perfectly lit Lido.

Our yogis were treated to one of our wild bars and a cup of coconut Chai from Zigzag teas. Do check them out, we didn’t realise tea could taste so good!

Accompanied by Indian inspired music, yogis enjoyed an hour of dynamic yoga before they settled into savasana where they were immersed in a powerful gong bath!

As it was an intimate space, everyone got involved and helped us get the banquet table laid up and ready for the vegan feast!

First up, we served a coconut red lentil dahl served with gram flour crisp breads,  followed by gigantic platters of Indian inspired salads.  Salads included; cumin roasted cauliflower with crispy chickpeas, griddled tamarind ginger aubergines, Bombay sweet potatoes and red onion bhajis served with coconut radish raita.

For a sweet treat to finish, we served a striking coconut and vanilla panna cotta with a mango, chilli and lime salsa.

All recipes from the night will be available on our website with our weekly #wtfrecipes

We had such a fun night and great to meet people inspired to eat more vegan food as a result (many didn’t even notice!). We are looking forward to our next retreat with Katarina Rayburn In Paros at the end of May, there is still one room late and a great last minute rate! Get in touch for details-

Healed Sole’s – Group Healing & Meditation Night

Mim Mc

Mondays seem to be a day that you just try to get through, make yourself dinner and take yourself to bed hoping for Tuesday.  This Monday, however, was rather different!

We were invited along to provide the treats for Healed Sole’s Group Healing and Meditation Night. Set in De Parma’s stunning midcentury gallery in Chelsea, we were joined by 10 lovely souls all there to be guided by the magical and beautiful Veronica Amarelle.

As we sat down on the classic Italian armchairs and got chatting, there were a mix of reasons people came along from seeking relief from their busy and stressful jobs,  to anxiety issues and those just curiousness as to how meditation could help them. Veronica is a trained reflexologist, NLP life coach, Reiki Master and uses all the techniques she has learnt to guide you through a blissful hour of personal development and meditation.

Each week explores a different theme and variety of techniques, this week was love! We started with breathing exercises and visualising our feet being anchored down into the middle of the earth. This was incredibly powerful and our feet felt like lead weights for the whole hour!  We were then taken on a journey as we created our own interpretations of situations and places that Veronica places in your mind,  one of my visits was to a big lake with a gold, purple and red sunset.

As we were stirred back to life by wiggling our fingers and toes, there were lots of big sleepy smiles across everyone’s faces. People felt they could see and feel the heat of light and others saw radiating purple colours.

We floated back to the tube feeling soothed without a care in the world! Whatever you think of visualisation and meditation, it’s definitely an experience to try and makes you aware of quite how powerful your mind is!

Veronica has set up these evenings so that people have access to these powerful mediums and says ‘more people can experience and understand the huge benefits of healing and mediation and how it provides a sense of centeredness and alignment in day to day life. Stress will reduce, happiness will thrive and we’ll all find life that little bit easier’.

The Healing events are fortnightly to create a continual top up of cleansing and realigning in an affordable and friendly environment.  The next event has the theme of ‘Harnessing your energy'’ and is on Monday 21st March 7-9pm (£20 per person) at De Parma Gallery, 247 Fulham Road.  We will be rustling up an apple and olive oil cake and chai wild bars.
